Things to Do in New JerseyFun Places to Visit in the Garden State for the Whole Family
New Jersey may be small in size but it has many attractions. Casual visitors will find a tremendous variety of places to visit and things to do in the garden state.
Shoehorned between New York and Pennsylvania, the state of New Jersey often serves as a stopping off point between the two. While many people see New Jersey only when passing through the area’s many expressways or peering out of a terminal at Newark airport, those who stop and stay will find much to keep their attention. The Jersey ShoreNew Jersey has a very long coastline that extends from Sandy Hook next to nearby Staten Island all the way to Cape May and the state of Delaware in the south. Visitors will find small towns with white sands and rolling beaches. Stop in upscale Rumson for a look at fanciful houses dotted with inlets. Go further down and find communities such as Avalon where whale watching is common. At the very end of the shore tourists will find Wildwood and Cape May. Wildwood is noted for a boardwalk filled with carnival games and an amusement park just off the beach. Cape May is home to dozens of restored Victorian houses painted wildly exuberant colors. Eat Fresh in the Garden State New Jersey indeed deserves of the moniker the Garden State. Locals and visitors alike will find hundreds of farms offering fresh produce. During the early summer try peach and cherry picking at orchards. Late summer brings in juicy tomatoes and sweet corn that can be bought at roadside stands in many different counties. Fall is a time for apples. Look for places that offer the opportunity to pick apples fresh off the tree. Many farms also have pumpkin patches where visitors can find just the right Jack ‘O Lantern. Hike the Delaware Water GapThe Delaware Water Gap is an area of great scenic beauty located between New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Visitors will find hiking trails and national parks as well as boating and rafting down rivers. Many area parks have lodgings that can be booked at very low cost. Liberty Science CenterAs the West Orange laboratories of famed inventor Thomas Edison attest, New Jersey has long been home to scientists. Today travelers can explore the principles of science at the Liberty Science Center. Located in Liberty State Park just a short trip from New York City, the center offers visitors dozens of exhibits designed to help children of all ages learn about the world they live in. Study the principles of magnetism, learn about the evolution of human communication or examine how skyscrapers to built in a single day. New Jersey is a widely diverse place filled with many different places to visit. Take some time and discover the state’s indoor and outdoor attractions.
